Natural Disasters
Where you stand may show all signs of normalcy, but don't proceed with business-as-usual while a natural disaster unfolds.
Procedure
Stop - Divert some attention from routine matters to keep yourself apprised of the situation.
- Tune in to news broadcasts.
- Keep smart phones charged and other communication devices handy to receive new alerts and warnings.
- Be attentive to alerts from local authorities and responsive to any mandates they may issue.
Assess - Consider what course of action will minimize the disaster's negative impact on yourself and others.
- Decide which locations to shelter are feasible and which is likely to be the safest.
- Plan a way to evacuate yourself and your dependents or colleagues to that location.
- Review a list of disaster supplies to help identify those you may need while sheltering.
- More information is available through these links to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA):
React - Based on the information you've gathered and your safety plan, take appropriate action.
- Call 911 if you're in need of immediate assistance.
- Reach out to dependents and colleagues to establish or confirm meet-up locations.
- Implement your plan (e.g., load your car with supplies, evacuate).
Find out whether your work location has been impacted via Facilities Status or call (800) 988-4740 to hear the current status of buildings.
